We have a lot of classes planned for 2017.  Here is what we have scheduled at this time.

Busy Bees, Monarch Butterflies, and other Pollinators

   May 6, 10:30 - Noon,  Ages 5yrs - 10 yrs $10/person

Join us to learn about the importance of plant pollination and helping all the pollinators in our backyards. It's not just honey bees that are busy!  Make a native pollinator house to take home and encourage these beneficial insects to spend more time with you.  Presented by Pioneer Farmsteaders.  Call the Nature Center @ 720-898-7405, online registration for this class coming soon.

Beekeeping Up Close

3 class series, Saturdays June 10, 17 and 24 in outdoor classroom, 8 am to 10am

Adult learners, max class size 8.  $15 per class or $40 for series

This 3 part series is designed to build on the basic information presented in Introduction to Backyard Beekeeping. Call the Nature Center @ 720-898-7405, online registration for this class coming soon.

Part I.  Getting to Know Bees, June 10

This class will cover different varieties of honeybees and their strengths and weaknesses in the backyard setting. We will also discuss different types of hives and beekeeping techniques.  We will visit the bee yard to learn about the life stages of the honeybee and the beekeeper's role at each stage.

Part II.  Problems in the Hive, June 17

Come for a discussion on hive problems ranging from parasites and diseases to fertility and nutritional issues. We will visit the bee yard to look for problems, but hopefully we won't find any!

Part III.  Year Two and Beyond, June 24

We've spent quite a bit of time going through how to start a beehive, but what happens next?  This class will discuss splitting hives to start new hives, refreshing queens, and managing the established beehive.
